Your first design

This guide takes you from a new file to a small, exportable interface.

Create a file

Open the app and create a new file from the home view. Give it a descriptive name so it is easy to find again.

Add a frame

Choose the Frame tool and drag on the canvas. A frame gives your interface a boundary and groups the layers inside it. Set its width and height in the inspector.

Build your interface

Use the rectangle and text tools to lay out a simple card or screen. Select a layer to change its fill, border, corner radius, or typography in the inspector.

Use the layer list to select objects that overlap. Rename layers as you go to keep your file easy to navigate.

Refine and export

Adjust spacing, alignment, and colors until the composition feels right. Select the frame and use Export selection (⇧ ⌘ E) to create an image you can share.
